Frequently asked questions:
What are your major sources of funding?
In collaboration with Harrington College of Design we
host a Progressive Dinner fundraiser once a year. In addition, 50% of the proceeds
from the Harrington College of Design Imagine Art Event do to Design At Home
families. Personal donations and donations from companies within the architecture
and design profession in the city of Chicago also contribute to our funding.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. Design at Home, NFP is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
As such, financial contributions may be deductible for federal income tax purposes.
Please consult with your financial advisor to determine the extent of tax deductions.
Does the family have to pay for the furniture or finishes the design student
specifies?
No. The design student is given a budget which is met
with monetary and specific product donations to Design at Home.
Do you only work with CHA families?
Yes. At this time we are focused on families who have
completed the Choose to Own program and have purchased their first home through
CHAC.
Is Design at Home, NFP accepting furniture and household
item donations?
Due to high volume and the format of our projects we are
not accepting furniture and household item donations, unless specifically related
to the project currently being worked on.
What can I donate?
You can make a monatary donation and anyone can volunteer
for our work weekends that currently occur once a year in the month of August.
How are the families selected?
The families selected qualify to participate after enrolling
in CHAC's Family Self-sufficiency Program and completing a homebuyer education
program.
Can someone give a presentation with more in-depth information to my group?
Any one of our directors would be happy to set up an informational
session for any group interested in contributing.
